Genetic Abnormalities of Legume Vegetables

Genetic Abnormalities of Legume Vegetables

Return to Abiotic disorders

Genetic abnormalities,  such as chimeras, typically appear as variegations in leaf color; they are generally manifested as varying shades of yellow and green. Leaves may be entirely affected, only partially affected along defined lines, or a mixture of both. At first appearance, symptoms may be mistaken for a nutrient deficiency. However, occurrences of genetic abnormalities tend to be isolated, while nutrient deficiencies are generally more widespread in a planting.

Management:

  • Chimeras cannot be prevented through grower practices, and they cannot be reversed once they develop.
