Wind Damage of Legume Vegetables

Wind Damage of Legume Vegetables

Return to abiotic disorders

Wind damage from high winds can lead to plant breakage, ultimately reducing crop quality and yield. Damage can vary based on crop age. Non-trellised plants with a heavy pod set are vulnerable to being blown over or broken. High winds also can cause loss of blossoms, damage fruit in early developmental stages, and increase difficulty of harvest.

Management:

  • Use plant trellises to support weight and windbreaks to reduce wind intensity.
